CROSS COUNTRY SKI ADVENTURE LESSONS
AT PRIEST OR TROUT LAKE

The Telluride Nordic Center offers opportunities to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of a guided wilderness experience while touring comfortably at your own pace on cross country skis.  Terrain at Priest Lake and the Valley Floor is beginner to intermediate. Beginners have the option to snowshoe at Priest Lake!

Basic Tour Information:

Guided tours are conducted on trails maintained by the Telluride Nordic Association, which includes over 24 kilometers of pristine groomed and ungroomed trails and with spectacular mountain views in a wilderness setting.

  • Tours and instruction are conducted for all ages and abilities and are custom-designed around participants’ needs, skill levels and daily weather conditions.
  • Outings begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. daily.
  • Tours depart from the Shell Station (Valley Floor), Lizard Head (Trout Lake) or the Matterhorn Forest Service parking area (Priest).
  • Priest and Trout Lakes are approximately 14 miles from downtown Telluride. (Maps)

Day Tours Include:

  • Scenic tour of the Lakes, located at the base of the spectacular 13,000 ft Sheep Mountain.
  • Experienced and trained facilitation and instruction with a friendly guide.
  • Delicious lunch provided on the trail.

Clothing and Equipment List (What to Bring and Wear…):

  • Cross country skis, boots, and poles are available to rent from Telluride Sports on Main Street for $15.  For reservations, call 728-4477.
  • Daypack to carry the things you will need for the day
  • Plastic water bottle filled with drinking water
  • Sunblock lotion and chapstick
  • Camera and gaiters (optional)
  • Sunglasses (and ski goggles if snowy conditions)
  • Fleece or wool hat and scarf
  • Synthetic long underwear tops and bottoms
  • Sweater (fleece or wool)
  • Ski Jacket or warm insulated jacket
  • Gloves and mittens (liners optional)
  • Insulated pants (fleece, wool, ski pants, etc.)
  • Two pairs of warm socks
  • Snow boots (waterproof)
